2/19/2020

Art exploration is on the horizon this month . Experimenting with new mediums, formats , and tools expands not expands an artist knowledge but also new breathes life into compositions. Paste mediums, iridescent paint, and pallet knives help create depth to ordinary 2d dimensions and makes compositions unique. Oxidizing gold leaf and sculpting with joint compound are two techniques I began dabbling into again.

Gold Leaf & Oxidizing Mediums

After watching countless Lauren Brevner Instagram videos on gold leaf I became inspired to try gold leaf sheets! Since planets are my genre I decided to use gold leaf as a integrated layer within my artwork. Patina mediums can be used ontop of metals adding dimension. Artworks are always richer with layers creating a crafted piece. Sophisticated finishes patina coatings is my brand of choice.

Molding Paste Vs. Joint Compound

While molding paste is my favorite medium to use to sculpt because of it’s thicker texture joint compound is a better option for larger projects. More product is offered for a cheaper price and it’s easier to sand once it’s dry. Molding paste requires more attention when it comes to sanding and carving than joint compound. Dap wallboard (joint compound) from Lowe’s and liquitex flexible molding paste are my brands of choice for each prodjuct.
